CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Chiropractic is a branch of healthcare that focuses on the relationship between the body’s structure – mainly the spine – and its function. Conditions commonly treated by chiropractors include back and neck pain, headaches, sports injuries and repetitive strains. Patients also seek treatment of pain associated with other conditions, such as arthritis.

Doctors of chiropractic receive both classroom and clinical training in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, pathology, nutrition, public health and other subjects. Chiropractic students spend four years learning how to adjust and manipulate the spine, joints, bones, muscles and connective tissues, such as the ligaments and tendons attached to bones and muscles.

Following training, chiropractors must be licensed by the state to practice. Chiropractic does not use drugs or surgery in treatment.

If you are seeing or plan to see a chiropractor, be sure to inform your doctor or surgeon so that all members of your health care team are informed and working together.

EXTREMITY ADJUSTING

The chiropractic approach that works so well with the spine can be applied to other joints of the body. Virtually every articulation of your skeletal system is susceptible to fixations that can impair function and range of motion

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common result of repetitive motions to abnormally functioning joints of the spine, arm and wrist.

Joint problems throughout the body:

Jaw: Stress, teeth grinding and spinal problems can cause TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders where your jaw connects to your skull. (You can feel the joint move by placing your fingers in front of your ears and opening your mouth.) Skilled chiropractic care can restore proper nervous system control of involved muscles and ligaments, reducing pain, stiffness, clicking sounds or locked jaw.

Shoulder: Many shoulder problems originate in the area where the nerves branch from the spinal cord and exit the neck. Shoulder pain or pain radiating down the arm can be accompanied by weakness, numbness or tingling in the wrists or hands. Many patients report dramatic improvement with chiropractic care.

Elbow: Classic tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a repetitive strain injury that often afflicts the dominant arm. It is seen among carpenters, mechanics, office workers, cashiers and those who perform repeated hammering, grasping and rotary forearm motions. A thorough examination followed by appropriate chiropractic care can produce excellent results.

Wrist: Carpal tunnel syndrome is usually due to compression of the median nerve as it passes through the band of ligaments in the wrist. In many cases, the underlying cause is a misalignment of one or more joints of the neck, shoulder, elbow or wrist. Identifying the involved joint(s) and a program of chiropractic care can often avoid surgery.

Hip: The hips and sacrum, considered the “pelvic girdle,” is the foundation of your spine. These sacroiliac joints can affect nerves exiting the spine. While the chiropractic adjustments of the hips can produce excellent results, many hip problems can be caused from malfunctioning joints above or below the pelvis.

Ankle: The ankle is the most frequently injured joint in the body. “Pronation,” in which the feet flare outward and kneecaps rotate inward, is the most common foot problem. When weak arches cause the bones of the foot to drop to an unstable position, stress on the foot increases. Adjusting malfunctioning joints of the feet, combined with custom shoe orthotics, can reduce tenderness, improve your gait and stabilize the entire skeletal system.

While many health problems can be traced to the spine, other joints of the body can be involved. When chiropractic techniques are applied, range of motion can be improved and painful inflammation reduced. Without drugs or surgery!

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

Based on cutting-edge science, a functional approach to health care has become more of the norm in treatment and understanding of chronic illnesses like diabetes to depression; heart disease to hypertension; allergies to anxiety and more. The core to this concept is the understanding of the imbalances in the key physiological systems in your body. When inflammation, occurs on chronic basis the bodies biochemistry is altered and becomes unbalanced. The effects are often spiraling into disaster causing chronic illness and sometimes life threatening conditions.

Functional Medicine provides a process of discovering the possible underlying cause not identified by traditional Medical techniques. It does this by identifying hidden undiscovered unbalanced physiological systems and addressing lifestyle issues the are contribute to the problem.

This approach does not treat the individual diseases but rather deals with the underlying dysfunction in the individual patient.

With the process of analysis and treatment, health is restored. Blood sugar, triglycerides and cholesterol are normalized. Hormone imbalances are corrected. Stubborn weight is finally felt with. Energy levels become improved.

We are not prescribing or alter medications. Our systems program works in conjunction with the patients prescribing doctor, who may decide when and if you may reduce or as often noted eliminate any medication.  We always start with an extensive History, Food Allergy testing and OATs

FUNCTIONAL REHABILITATION

What is functional rehabilitation?

It is a strategy involving evaluation and performance of rehabilitation exercises that mimic real life. With this a patient will be able to return to their work, activities of daily living, or competition sooner and with better mechanics to improve performance and prevent future episodes of pain. Methods used in functional rehab include:

  • Tissue sparing techniques
  • To prevent further injury
  • To prevent aggravation of your condition
  • Spinal stabilization
  • Reduce the strain placed on the spinal joints through effective bracing and muscular support (core strength)
  • Improved athletic performance through effective power transfer and a decrease in wasted movements
  • Training proper movement patterns
  • Decrease strain placed on joints and connective tissues including the interveterbral disc
  • Reduce the risk of future aggravations
  • Get you back to work (& play) faster

KINESIO TAPING

If you feel like your training or everyday routine is ‘off the norm’, consider adding Kinesio Tape to your Chiropractic experience!

Kinesio tape is strong, elastic, and light weight. It allows the user nearly free range of motion and provides lift and support where most needed. Because the tape is water resistant it is durable enough to stay on the skin for 3 to 5 days. You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete to use Kinesio tape! Whether you are training for a marathon or just need a little extra help with your everyday routine – Kinesio Tape works for you. In our office we use Kinesio Tape as a complementary procedure to assist with the regular chiropractic and therapy treatments.

Clinically we see a lot of positive results with Kinesio Tape. This includes common running injuries like ITB inflammation, hip pain, knee pain, Achilles/calf pain, and plantar fascitis. It also works well with lower back pain, upper back/neck pain, shoulder problems and posture correction!

For more information about the benefits of Kinesio Tape and to view sample tape jobs please visit the Kinesio Taping Website at: http://www.kinesiotaping.com/

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a well-known form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been practiced for over 3,000 years. The specific points used in acupuncture lie where Channels surface on the body and once needled can help redirect the flow of Qi (chee) where it is unbalanced, interrupted or insufficient. Qi, a person’s natural vital energy, influences physiological functioning of the body to promote the body’s ability to heal itself by flowing through channels. These Channels are specific pathways that are associated with internal organs and other physiological systems. Acupuncture is performed using extremely thin needles that are solid, flexible and disposable. It can be used to facilitate pain or disease caused by imbalanced Qi in the meridians and their respective physiological systems.

The practitioner can detect the imbalance of Qi by diagnosing energy flow, which is measured by examining pulse, the appearance of one’s tongue, medical history and tenderness along the meridian. As the needle begins to work, the patient may experience a dull/achy, warm, numb or tingling feeling around the area of insertion. Particularly rare side effects may include: dizziness, bruising, or light-headedness. Most patients feel heavy or sedated after treatment, indicating the relaxing of tight muscles.

Though most appointments last only between 30-60 minutes, a patient will notice significant differences within 2 to 3 treatments. Depending on the chronicity of pain, and the activity aggravating ones pain, one might need more treatments. Common disorders treated with acupuncture may include, but are not limited to: migraines/headaches, depression, anxiety, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, post-surgery swelling or pain, menstrual cycle dysfunctions, insomnia, eczema, and other pains within the entire body.

CUPPING

Cupping therapy (CT) is a method of using cups to create localized pressure on body points by creating a vacuum. Cupping sets use suction to create the vacuum. The vacuum inside the cups causes the blood to form in the area to ensure healing in that area. Another healing aspect of cupping therapy is through the release of toxins in your body. The suction from the cups can penetrate deep into your tissues causing the tissues to release harmful toxins. It triggers the lymphatic system, clears the blood vessels, and stretches and activates the skin.

USE: Pain relief on Tender points and Trigger Point.

EAR SEEDS

Auricular Seed Therapy (AST) is widely used for many conditions, including Addiction treatment, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and other conditions. We use what are called EAR SEEDS( Ear seeds are small seeds from the Vaccaria plant.) On auricle points that related to an organ system or body complaint. These seeds are held in place on the ear with a small piece of adhesive tape. Ear seeds may be left in the ear for a few days or up to two weeks.

NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT CONSULTATION

There are many ways to look at the body and assess its function and need for supplementation, we use the best method available called the Systems Survey, Systems Survey accurately analyzes individual patient symptom information and translates that information into an understanding of the underlying systems (such as liver, sugar handling, digestive, etc.) that need nutritional support to bring the body back into a state of balance and wellbeing. Once we feed the body what it needs, the body has the tools do what it does best; heal and repair itself.

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE ORGANIC ACID TEST

GREAT PLAINS-ORGANIC ACIDS TEST (OAT)

The Organic Acids Test (OAT) offers an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria. Abnormal toxic levels of these microorganisms can cause or worsen behavior disorders, hyperactivity, movement disorders, affect energy levels and immune function. Many people with chronic illnesses and neurological disorders often excrete one or more abnormal organic acids. The cause of these toxic levels include: oral antibiotic use, high sugar diets, immune deficiencies, and genetic factors.

If abnormalities are detected in the OAT, treatment can include supplements, vitamins, antioxidants and dietary modification. Upon treatment, patients and physicians have reported significant improvement such as decreased fatigue, regular bowel movements, increased energy and alertness, increased concentration, improved verbal skills, less hyperactivity, and decreased abdominal pain.

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE FOOD ALLERGY TEST

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE FOOD ALLERGY TEST

GREAT PLAINS-IGG FOOD ALLERGY TEST + CANDIDA

The IgG Food Allergy Test w/ Candida is a useful guide for structuring elimination diets in many chronic conditions. Sometimes referred to as "delayed allergies", IgG food reactions require removal of the offending foods for several months to years. Individuals with neurological, gastrointestinal, and movement disorders often suffer from IgG-mediated food reactions. These people may continue to eat offending foods, unaware of their potential effects. The 93 foods tested in the IgG Food Allergy Test w/ Candida will identify the offending food so they can be eliminated from the diet. This elimination of IgG positive foods can improve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, autism, AD(H)D, cystic fibrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and epilepsy according to numerous clinical studies.
